Architectural lighting

The aim of architectural lighting is to use light to emphasise the important features of the building and its urban setting, supporting its historic, artistic and social value.

Different places and situations are also handled in architectural lighting in such a way as to create safe conditions for the people there and to promote the image of the city for tourists and residents.

Architectural lighting needs specific products such as ground- and floor-recessed luminaires, outdoor floodlights which create comfortable lighting conditions that are suitable for safety, at the same time withstanding bad weather and vandalism.

For appropriate lighting, the luminaires must have optics, reflectors and lenses which produce a wide range of lighting effects: from very focused beams of light for small objects or lighting details, to wall washer lighting effects for evenly lighting walls and vertical display surfaces.

For porticoes and open architectural spaces on the outside of buildings, which are therefore even indirectly exposed to the weather, the use of outdoor pendant luminaires and outdoor recessed and ceiling-mounted luminaires is recommended.
